Logan Johns
Logan Johns is a multimedia journalist and storyteller based in Washington, D.C., and a senior at Howard University, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Media, Journalism & Film with a concentration in journalism and a minor in Photography.
His passion for storytelling lives at the intersection of culture, politics, and visual media. Through his work, Logan is committed to documenting the lived experiences of Black communities and telling stories that inform, engage, and resonate across platforms.
Logan currently serves as an Associate Producer for Playback & Digital Media at Roland Martin Unfiltered, where he supports daily broadcasts by managing video, sound, and graphic elements in a fast-paced newsroom. He also serves as Director of Content & Distribution for Howard University’s Spotlight Network Television, leading student teams in producing news and feature content while shaping the network’s editorial vision.
As a reporter and visual journalist for the Howard University News Service (HUNewsService.com) and a journalist with the Bison ONE Newsroom—a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind partnership between a national media corporation and an HBCU journalism program—Logan produces multimedia stories that blend reporting, photography, and video. His work has covered major moments including the 2024 Presidential Election, CultureCon, and the Trump 2024 Inauguration, capturing both the urgency of politics and the vibrancy of culture.
His writing and visual storytelling have been published in NewsOne, 101 Magazine, and HUNewsService.com. His recent work includes “Freaknik and the Politics of Black Joy, Memory, and Misunderstanding” in 101 Magazine and “Sanctuary Campus Debate Intensifies as Students Return from Spring Break” for the Howard University News Service, reflecting his interest in long- and short-form magazine reporting, broadcast journalism, and photojournalism.
In addition to his reporting, Logan has gained hands-on experience in national news production through the Black Star Network and has developed a strong visual portfolio through his photography work, which has been recognized by PhotoVogue.
A Dean’s List scholar and recipient of multiple academic honors, including the Annenberg Honors Scholarship, Logan is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and a 2026 NABJ Young Journalists Institute participant. This spring, he will be inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the official honor society of the National Communication Association.
With interests spanning broadcast journalism, anchoring, production, and podcasting, Logan is driven to tell stories that connect with audiences in meaningful ways. After graduating, he plans to attend graduate school while continuing his work as a multimedia journalist, with the goal of becoming an on-air anchor and producing impactful stories that elevate underrepresented voices and shape the nationalBorn in Washington, D.C., Logan Johns has come of age in an era of increased violence against Blacks in America. In the wake of the killing deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and attacks on affirmative action, voting rights, and a woman’s right to choose, he became interested in chronicling Black life and the lives of all oppressed peoples.
